Emerald Isle sits out on Bogue Banks, with the Atlantic on one side and Bogue Sound on the other. That's not a small detail. Most lawn care companies plan for salt air coming from one direction. Out here it comes from both, and it's harder on turf, shrubs, and irrigation than almost anywhere else we work in Carteret County.

A lot of people move a mainland lawn plan out to the island and wonder why it doesn't hold up. Sandy soil on a barrier island drains fast, which sounds good until you realize it also drains away fertilizer and water before the roots get a chance to use it.
